Governor Seyi Makinde and His Unguarded Utterances

By AbdurRaheem Sa’ad Dembo anipr

“As Makinde said in Ibadan 25th April, 2026, those who fail to learn from the poignant episode that took place on the soil of Ibadan 60 years ago may catalyse a re-enactment of the anger of history in the year 2027..”

I felt bad and worse,in fact,my mood changed almost immediately after I read what the Governor of Oyo State,Seyi Makinde said during the opposition Parties Summit in Ibadan on Saturday.

His Excellency has enjoyed the grace of God from the oil industry up to the time he became Governor. Is it because he is leaving the stage very soon, that’s why he is depicting the inherent belligerent in him.I cannot decipher this.

Let it be known that if anything ugly happens to the people of your state, which I don’t pray it occurs, history will never be kind to Governor Seyi Makinde.

Over the time, people said he has been a good man to the civil servants in Oyo state as their salaries are being paid regularly and that he has been providing road infrastructure but his recent outburst did not portray him as a gentle man.

A leader is not someone who will be clamouring for violence, because of election. If you know you have done the right thing, then let election come around and prove your popularity.

Let me ask this question,If you seek for violence during 2027 election in Oyo state and it claims many lives in the process.Do you think the town will remain the same?Besides, a true leader seeks for peaceful coexistence because it is on that trajectory his party’s acceptance and outreach become sustained and tested.

Governor Seyi Makinde, no reasonable Nigerian would go along with you to unleash violence on your people. You are already completing your tenure next year by God’s grace,so leave the people of your state peacefully the way you met them prior to your ascension as the Governor of Oyo State in 2019

Finally, A good leader must be a trouble shooter not a trouble maker.Just as Former United States President Bill Clinton said” ..our common humanity matters more”.
