Bandits ‘kill’ ex-Jigawa lawmaker despite ransom payment

Abba Adamu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa state, has been reported killed by bandits who abducted him along Kaduna-Abuja expressway.

Adamu, a former member of the house of representatives, who represented the Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma federal constituency of Jigawa between 2007 and 2011, was abducted on Monday at the Jere axis of the Abuja-Kaduna road alongside his friend, Ali Tukur Gantsa, while travelling to the nation’s capital for a political engagement.

Sabo Nakudu, an ADC chieftain and former Jigawa senator, confirmed the incident in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday.

According to sources, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N200 million before negotiations reduced the amount to N50 million.

Adamu was said to have died in captivity, while Gantsa regained freedom after the ransom was paid.

Family sources said Adamu, who suffered from asthma and hypertension, was denied access to his medication during captivity, worsening his condition amid the trauma of the ordeal.

An insider revealed that Adamu’s son and driver delivered the ransom to the abductors, who later released Gantsa and showed the deceased politician’s body to him

His remains have since been released to the family for burial
