Three Kwara APC Senators Seek Review of Party Primaries amid Deepening Internal Crisis

Three senators representing Kwara State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called for a review of the processes and outcomes of the party’s recent primaries, citing growing divisions within the ruling party.

In a communiqué issued by the Kwara APC Senate Caucus and jointly signed by Senator Saliu Mustapha (Kwara Central), Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru (Kwara South) and Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar (Kwara North), the lawmakers urged the party leadership to revisit the screening exercises and primary elections and establish a high-level reconciliation committee to address grievances.

The senators’ intervention comes amid a prolonged crisis within the Kwara APC, with many stakeholders blaming Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the worsening divisions in the party.

In recent weeks, a majority of governorship aspirants under the banner of the G10 rejected the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate, Yakubu Danladi, describing his candidature as illegitimate and unelectable.

Similarly, the Kwara APC Elders’ Caucus has openly opposed Danladi’s candidature, arguing that it resulted from a unilateral decision by the governor and warning that retaining him as the party’s flagbearer could jeopardise the party’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.

Beyond internal party matters, the senators also expressed concern over worsening insecurity in parts of the state and called for renewed efforts to tackle banditry and kidnapping.

They urged party leaders and members to prioritise unity and collective interests in order to preserve the APC’s electoral fortunes in Kwara State.
