Encomiums as Idris Panti Bows out From NECO

By AbdurRaheem Sa’ad Dembo anipr

Retirement is a phase in the life of every civil servant. It is not a choice but inevitable reality that will signal one’s end in civil service.

It is not a death sentence but a renewal of energy, hope and emancipation of one’s mind.It doesn’t happen by coincidence but sacrosanct as embedded in the civil service condition of service.

To some, retirement is a phase that may be difficult, if one did not plan well while in service. But some other people believe that no matter how one plans, one should just pray for Allah to ease his or her affairs during retirement.

Oga Panti as I and many fondly called him retired on 24th June, 2026 from the service of the National Examinations Council (NECO)after serving meritoriously for years.

I have worked with him several times when I was at the department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT),most especially at the archive division.Until his retirement he was the HOD Archive and did a fantastic job.

In his personal message sent to the WhatsApp group of the Council,he thanks the Registrar/Chief Executive National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi for providing sterling leadership. He also appreciates the Management of the National Examinations Council ranging from the Directors,State Coordinators and HODs.

I have a lot to say about Oga Panti but i will summarise it in order to accommodate other colleagues’ opinions to ventilate and add glamour to this piece.

He is an easy going person and has fear of God.He has no time for bickering.I have never seen him where he was raising his voice. He is a professional,a good father, friend and colleague. He is very blunt because he is not afraid to speak the truth. He was one of those who championed the cause of NASU at the early stage when it was like a taboo to be a member.

An Assistant Director in the Council,Mr Azeez Laaro Opines:”Let me start by congratulating Mallam Idris Panti on his successful retirement from civil service. I worked together with Mr Panti in ICT. He was the H.O.D, Archives. He believed so much in team work, very jovial and accommodating.
His leadership as H.O.D set a standard of fairness and professionalism that many staff-members continue to learn from.He was also my good neighbour for many years, and a fellow Arsenal’s fan.
I wish Mr Panti well in all his endeavours.”

Significantly, a staff member from the Council, Mr Abubakar Chado has this to say about Mallam Idris Panti:”Dear Oga Panti, your retirement marks the end of a remarkable journey of dedicated service and leadership. You were not just a Head of Department, but a mentor, a father figure, and a source of encouragement to many of us.

I will always remember the special way you called me “Chado” — a simple word that carried kindness, respect, and a bond I will cherish. Your wisdom, patience, and guidance have left a lasting impact on us.

As you begin this new chapter of life, I pray for good health, happiness, and many more years of fulfillment. Thank you for your service and the memories we shared.

Congratulations on your retirement, Oga Panti. You will always be remembered.”

Mr Abdulrazaq Saadu, also a staff member described him thus:”Oga Panti is a man of the people, very friendly and easy going person.
Always looking out for staff working under him and ever willing to lend a helping hand whenever the need arises.”

Mr Peter Ojedele,a staff member also said this about him:”Malam Panti is a good leader, a jovial man, someone who always identify with Staff, a humble man per excellence, he always see himself as equal even with his junior ones by way of interaction and work. His personality and wealth of experience will be dearly missed. He is indeed a Comrade.”

In a congratulatory message by the entire staff of Information and Communication Technology Department. They described him as one who has made impacts in NECO and wished him a new chapter of peace, joy and good health.

“In their words “Retirement is not the end of a journey but the beginning of a well-deserved life of rest and fulfillment. Thank you for the support, encouragement, and remarkable example you have been to us all. May This Birthday and Retirement bring beautiful memories, endless laughter, and abundant blessings. Wishing you many more years of success, happiness, and fulfillment in all you do.

“As you step into retirement today sir, may you do so with pride knowing that your legacy and good name in the council is firmly established. The seed of dedication and excellence you have sown will continue to bear quality fruits to the benefit of the council for years to come.”

“It was indeed an honour to have worked with you Sir”

They also prayed to Allah to grant him long life in good health and tranquility.

By way of conclusion,it is good to be good wherever you are.Relating with people doesn’t start and end overnight,if it is sustained with humility and respect.Indeed, Mallam Abubakar Idris Panti has demonstrated these qualities in no small measures.Wishing him a new chapter of hope, peace and progress.
