In a major effort to boost food security and support local farmers, Senator Saliu Mustapha, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, has launched a comprehensive agricultural intervention programme in Kwara State. This initiative is designed to directly address the seasonal challenges faced by smallholder farmers by providing them with critical supplies and modern machinery. Through this targeted outreach, the lawmaker aims to enhance crop yields, improve farming efficiency, and lower production costs across the region.

The primary focus of this massive distribution exercise centres on soil nourishment and fertility management, which are paramount for sustainable crop production. To ensure that local farmers can maximise their output during the current planting cycle, Senator Mustapha has provided a substantial quantity of soil nutrients, consisting of 5,000 bags of NPK fertiliser and 2,500 bags of Urea fertiliser. These specific formulations will help farmers optimise plant growth and secure healthier harvests across diverse crop varieties.

This kind gesture is beyond supplying critical fertilisers, the intervention also prioritises crop protection and pest management by addressing the practical challenges of chemical application. A total of 1,000 high-quality knapsack sprayers have been distributed to enable precise and safe application of pesticides and liquid nutrients. This machinery reduces manual labour and helps safeguard growing crops from devastating pests and diseases that frequently threaten agricultural investments.

Recognising the unpredictable nature of seasonal rainfall and the growing need for dry-season farming, the empowerment package introduces vital irrigation and land-preparation technologies. The provision of 500 water pump machines will empower farming communities to establish reliable irrigation pathways, shielding their crops from dry spells and extending the traditional cultivation calendar. Additionally, the distribution of 250 power tillers will modernise the initial land cultivation phase, helping farmers prepare their fields faster and more effectively.

This expansive initiative underscores a strong legislative commitment to rural development and food self-sufficiency within Kwara State. By equipping thousands of local agricultural producers with these fundamental inputs, Senator Saliu Mustapha is helping to transition traditional practices towards a more mechanised and profitable future. The collaborative effort is expected to stimulate the local economy, drive down food inflation, and establish a resilient foundation for long-term agricultural prosperity.

Indeed, this act demonstrates the rare and dedicated nature of a true son of the soil who continues to give back despite political adversity and turbulent times. His resilience and self-determination to see his people smile and comfortable in their daily endeavours show that Senator Saliu Mustapha stands as a pillar of true democratic representation. The public clearly sees these efforts, and time will tell as the will of the people prevails to defend the Senator representing Kwara Central, ensuring that Kwara grows, Kwara prospers, and Senator Saliu Mustapha continues to succeed.
