KWASU Denies Minimum Wage Allegation, Says Staff Receive Full Salaries

The management of Kwara State University, Malete – KWASU, has dismissed reports alleging that its staff are not benefiting from the minimum wage approved by the Kwara State Government, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a rejoinder signed by the University’s Director of University Relations, Professor Saeedat Aliyu, the institution stated that all its teaching, non-teaching, and technology staff receive salaries comparable to those earned by their counterparts in federal universities across Nigeria.

The management faulted an online publication which accused the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of engaging in a publicity stunt over the implementation of the N100,000 minimum wage, describing the report as baseless and lacking proper verification.

According to the statement, the individuals referenced in the publication are not employees of the university but part-time workers engaged to supervise privately owned student hostels located within and around the university community. It stressed that such workers are neither on the university’s payroll nor governed by its employment conditions.

KWASU further maintained that the institution has continued to enjoy significant support from the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRazaq, noting that the administration’s interventions have contributed substantially to the university’s academic advancement and research development.

The university, therefore, urged members of the public to disregard the publication, insisting that it is without merit and does not reflect the true welfare conditions of its staff.
