CLTC, National Defence College Seal Strategic Partnership On Leadership, Youth Development

The Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC) has entered into a fresh strategic partnership with the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, in a move aimed at deepening leadership development and expanding capacity-building opportunities for Nigerian youths.

This is contained in a statement issued via the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Director-General of CLTC, Rinsola Abiola, on Thursday, where she disclosed that she personally led a CLTC delegation to the NDC for the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the agency and the Centre for Strategic Research and Studies (CSRS), a arm of the National Defence College.

According to Abiola, the partnership underscores a shared vision between both institutions to build a new generation of disciplined, skilled, and value-driven young Nigerians. “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to strengthening leadership development and capacity building, and creating more opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire the skills, knowledge and values needed to contribute meaningfully to national development,” she stated.

The CLTC boss commended the leadership of CSRS/NDC for what she described as consistent warmth and support extended to the centre throughout the process leading to the collaboration. She specifically appreciated the Provost of CSRS, Professor Adam Okene Ahmed, alongside the entire management of the institution, for their role in facilitating the engagement.

Abiola further reaffirmed CLTC’s commitment to building strategic alliances that align with its core mandate — the promotion of responsible citizenship, leadership development, and youth empowerment across the country. She expressed optimism that the new partnership would translate into concrete, impactful programmes for young Nigerians and the nation at large. “We look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will deliver impactful initiatives for the benefit of young Nigerians and the nation at large,” she added.

The MoU comes at a time when stakeholders across Nigeria’s education and security sectors continue to emphasise the importance of structured, values-based leadership training in addressing youth restiveness, unemployment, and the broader national development challenge. With institutions like CLTC and NDC’s CSRS pooling resources and expertise, observers say such collaborations could help bridge the gap between formal education and the practical leadership competencies young Nigerians need to thrive.

As the partnership takes shape, attention will now turn to how both institutions translate this MoU into tangible programmes — and whether it can serve as a model for similar collaborations across the country’s youth development landscape.
