
DSS Releases Carpenter Marwana After Investigation Clears Him of Terror Links, Pays ₦3m Compensation
The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a carpenter, Mustapha Marwana, after investigations found no evidence linking him to terrorist activities.Marwana, a native of Katsina State, was arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of school pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to the DSS, investigations conducted by a panel found no evidence establishing Marwana’s membership, financing, logistical support or operational involvement with the Ansaru terrorist group.Following the outcome of the investigation, the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, ordered Marwana’s immediate release and approved an initial compensation of ₦3 million to support his reintegration and livelihood.Marwana was subsequently released to his lawyer, Oghene Forgive.
Following his release, Marwana expressed appreciation to the DSS leadership for what he described as a humane intervention.The Service said the compensation formed part of measures aimed at supporting individuals cleared after investigations and strengthening public confidence in its operations.The DSS further disclosed that more than ₦300 million had been paid under the current leadership to individuals cleared of allegations or affected by cases of mistaken identity.
The Service said the measure underscores its commitment to ensuring that investigations are conducted responsibly while providing appropriate support to persons exonerated after due process.
