THE PAIN OF BETRAYAL
Distinguished Senator Saliu Mustapha, TURAKI of Ilorin has suffered enough humiliation over the past three years. Whenever I reflect on why he has faced such persecution within the party helped he to build and sustain. I am reminded of the story of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) in the Qur’an, who was betrayed by his brothers largely because of jealousy and resentment over their father’s affection for him.
I ask myself: why? Then I remember that Yusuf was distinguished among his brothers. Today, Distinguished Senator Saliu Mustapha remains one of the most admired and influential personalities within the APC structure in Kwara State. In terms of genuine affection and organic support base among Kwarans, he remains a politician of remarkable standing.
What is even more painful is that some of the people who have turned their backs on him are those whom he once supported politically and otherwise. That reality also makes me to have some concerns about people like Engr. Rilwan Cook Amode, who have consistently supported and lifted others, devoid of any condition. The pain of betrayal is not merely in being stabbed in the back; it is in discovering that the person holding the knife is someone you once helped along the way.
I have experienced similar disappointments in my own professional journey, so I understand, to some extent, how deeply such experiences can hurt.
As someone who believes in empathy, loyalty and conscience, I sincerely sympathise with the Distinguished Senator and wish him the very best as he decides the political platform on which he will contest, if he so wish. May Allah guide his steps, preserve his dignity and grant him victory wherever his destiny leads him.
