President Tinubu Inaugurates N18.8 Billion Buruku-Gboko Water Project in Benue
President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, inaugurated the N18.8 billion Buruku-Gboko water supply project in Benue State. Originally conceived in 1992 but abandoned by successive administrations, the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda to provide clean and safe drinking water.
The project will restore vandalized waterworks in Ameladu, Mkar, and Buruku, supplying potable water to over 506,000 residents. Water will be sourced from the Katsina Ala River, transported 17km for purification, and distributed to communities.
Executed by Messrs Ceylon Construction Services Ltd, the project includes rehabilitation of the water intake, installation of new pumps, and a solar-compatible control system, with a completion timeline of 18 months.
Governor Hyacinth Alia commended Tinubu for reviving the long-abandoned project, urging residents to ensure its sustainability. The Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, also assured the community’s commitment to protecting the infrastructure.
