Retirement is a great feat in the life of a civil servant, because not everyone would achieve that.On 24th April, 2025 Dr Abdulkarim Gidado retired from the service of National Examinations Council (NECO)with a clean slate as a dedicated civil servant.
Apart from working in the same organization, he is also one of my good brothers from Ilorin Emirate.Like my usual tradition, I don’t claim to know everything about any member of staff who has just retired. It is on that note I have to reach out to other colleagues, who will give their own account about the personality of Dr Gidado.
Mr Bolaji Aluko is an Assistant Director at the headquarters and has this to say about Dr Gidado, “Today 24th April,2025 marked your exit from the public service that you’ve deligently served after attainment of 60 years. We celebrate not only your remarkable career, but the incredible person behind it.
Beyond your professional accomplishments, it’s your personal qualities that we will remember most fondly. Your kindness, sense of humour and genuine care for everybody that comes your way.
As you embark on this new chapter of your life; may this new journey ahead be filled with joy, relaxation, and the adventure you’ve been dreaming of.
Wishing you all the best in Retirement.
Cheers to your next chapter!”
Similarly,An Assistant Director, Hajiya Zainab Garba Salihu asserted that Dr Gidado is her close friend and they have been working together since the inception of NECO from Division to Department. According to her “We were together at the Accreditation Division under late Mr. Dauda Yusuf. He was caring and dedicated to his work throughout. He has never been found wanting; always around.Any assignment given to him would be done with commitment and due diligence.I will surely miss him”
Mrs Aisha T. Muhammed is one of the HODs in the Council, she described him thus: “He has been a good friend, and very jovial. He would make sure I laughed no matter my mood whenever he met me within the Council. I have known him for more than 15 years .He is a very intelligent, gentle and peaceful personality. When I was appointed as a Head of Division he came around to congratulate me.
He is an easy going person and has advised me greatly. I have never had any issues with him. He must pull my legs even in the presence of people whenever I see him. I will miss him”.
An Assistant Director at the Headquarters, Mrs Simiat Raheem has this to say about Dr Gidado:” He is a generous person. We have worked together and he did not keep malice with anyone. If you offend him , he would tell you and move on. He is nice to everyone”
Mr Ogunlowo Olaniran is a Chief Technical officer in the Council, here is his words about him,”Dr Abdulkarim Gidado is an embodiment of knowledge. I learned from him while working with him on the field. He is hardworking, time conscious and efficiency minded.
He is not a selfish leader. He is open handed and treat his surbodinates as equals.
He is friendly and jovial.
In summary, my overall impression of him is positive”.
Significantly,Dr Nike Sulyman is the Director of Continue Education, Kwara State College of Education, Oro, here is what she said about him ” Dr. Gidado is a pleasant, straightforward, principled and a dedicated man. A responsible father and a loving husband.
He is also a disciplined man and cannot be easily influenced”.
Engineer Magaji Salihu from Ilorin South Local Government described him thus:”Dr Gidado is a straightforward person and does not believe in flamboyant life. He lives within his means. He is highly principled and will never betray you”.
Dr Rafat Dauda is the Principal Asst. Head Teacher, UNILORIN School, captures Dr Gidado’s personality thus:”Dr. Abdulkareem Gidado Saliman is an amiable, able, hardworking and efficient man.He works to the best of his ability even without supervision. He is honest to the core”.
Personally, in 2024 when we were together in Osogbo for SSCE Internal Examinations; It was a wonderful experience, because I enjoyed his magnanimity and jovial dispositions.
From the accounts above it is crystal clear that Dr Gidado has huge integrity. He has served without blemish, and it is part of a great achievement in one’s lifetime to retire meritoriously. Wishing him greater good in his future endeavours.
