VP Shettima visits Buhari in London hospital
Vice President Kashim Shettima has reportedly paid a private visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in London, where the ex-leader is currently recuperating from an undisclosed illness.
Sources told Daily Trust that Shettima flew out of Nigeria on Sunday night, June 29, and met with Buhari at a London hospital the following morning. The former President was said to have been in intensive care, but has since been stabilised and is now recovering well.
The visit, which was kept away from the media, comes amid growing speculation about Buhari’s health status following his quiet exit from public appearances in recent months.
A presidency source also revealed that the VP used the London trip to check on former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, though details of that meeting remain sketchy.
When contacted by reporters, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, confirmed Shettima’s trip abroad but said it was a “completely private visit.”
While the presidency has remained tight-lipped about Buhari’s medical condition, the former president is believed to have been undergoing specialist treatment in the UK.
