IEDPU launches N500m fundraising for development project in Kano
The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Kano Branch, on Saturday held a grand fundraising and launching ceremony aimed at raising N500 million to support a major development project in Kano State.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of IEDPU Kano Branch, Shaykh Abdulwahab Abdurraheem, stated that the event was organized to raise funds for the construction of a multi-purpose complex to serve the Ilorin Emirate community in Kano.
“We’ve been in Kano for over 50 years, yet we don’t have a permanent secretariat. So we decided not just to build an office but a comprehensive complex. It will include a Jumu’at Mosque, a standard library, an Islamiyyah school for our children, and of course, a secretariat for the Union,” he explained.
“In addition, the complex will have a guest house to accommodate visitors, especially those who may not have a place to stay. As you can see from our banner, based on the estimates provided, the entire project will cost about N500 million. We believe that every great journey begins with a first step, and today’s event marks that beginning. We hope that those who hear about it will be inspired to support us.”
He continued by expressing hope that the initiative would attract wider support:
“Insha’Allah, whoever wants to assist us will come forward. The Deputy Governor of Kano State, who represented His Excellency the Governor, was the first to arrive today, although the event had not yet officially begun at that time. It all helps to raise awareness.”
“To my members and everyone listening: whatever you intend to achieve, do it with resilience, patience, and perseverance. With those qualities and reliance on Almighty Allah, nothing is impossible. Insha’Allah.”
On his part, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, was represented by Alhaji Lukman Atanda, FCT Chairman of IEDPU. In his address, he stressed the importance of unity and peace, praising the initiative and highlighting its long-term benefits.
“Unity and progress are essential. Together, we are stronger. Unity brings strength, and we must remain united in love, loyalty, and the spirit of Islam. All that IEDPU is doing should align with Islamic teachings,” he said.
He also advised members not to allow politics to cause division among them.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Haruna Musa, represented by the university registrar, Mallam Haruna Aliyu, commended IEDPU for its commitment to community development.
“The commitment demonstrated by IEDPU in organizing this fundraising and launching ceremony is highly commendable. The benefits of this project will extend beyond the Ilorin community to other communities residing in Kano.”
“We sincerely pray to Almighty Allah to grant success in this laudable endeavour and reward your collective effort abundantly. Before concluding, I wish to thank the Ilorin community for their continuous support, especially towards Bayero University, and to our esteemed Chancellor, His Highness Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari. May Almighty Allah continue to bless him with health, wisdom, and strength.”
He announced that the Vice-Chancellor has pledged ₦1 million on behalf of the university towards the project.
The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, represented by Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Mahmoud, also praised the initiative and pledged continued support for the union.
He commended the leadership of IEDPU for bringing the idea to life and offered prayers for divine guidance and blessings for the project’s success.
SolaceBase reports that the well-attended event brought together prominent sons and daughters of the Ilorin Emirate, as well as friends and well-wishers, who gathered in solidarity to support the ambitious fundraising goal.
The occasion featured cultural displays and goodwill messages from community leaders.
