Emirate FM 98.5 Launched in Ilorin, Expands Kwara’s Community Radio Space

Kwara State’s broadcast space has expanded with the official commissioning of Emirate FM 98.5, aptly branded “The Voice of the People,” marking a significant milestone in community-oriented broadcasting in the state.

The new radio station, founded by Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, was formally launched at the Emirate Radio House, Ilorin, during a colourful ceremony themed “It’s a New Dawn in Kwara State.” The event attracted top government officials, traditional institution stakeholders, youth leaders, and media professionals.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olokoju, congratulated the management of Emirate FM on the successful take-off of the station. He expressed confidence that the radio outfit would serve as a credible platform for information dissemination and public engagement, urging Kwarans to support and listen to the station.

In her address, Hon. Olokoju emphasized the strategic role of the media in governance and societal development, describing the media as “the greatest supporter in the world.” She affirmed that Emirate FM is well-positioned to live up to its slogan as “the voice of the people.”

Speaking with journalists, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Emirate FM 98.5, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, expressed profound gratitude to guests and stakeholders who graced the commissioning ceremony. He called on residents of Kwara State to remain patriotic and to give maximum support to the station in order to achieve its vision of people-centered broadcasting.

The National President of the Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA), Alhaji Muhammad Uthman Jagunma, described the launch of Emirate FM as a “fantastic development” for the Ilorin Emirate, noting that the station would amplify local voices and promote cultural heritage.

Other dignitaries at the event stressed the need for responsible journalism, urging the public to shun fake news and misinformation. They expressed optimism that Emirate FM 98.5 would make meaningful contributions to the social, cultural, and developmental growth of the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large.
