CLTC Moves to Integrate More Gender-Focused Training, Says DG Rinsola Abiola

In a renewed push to strengthen women’s leadership and amplify female voices in the media space, the Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), Mrs. Rinsola Abiola, has disclosed plans to deepen gender-focused training across the Centre’s programmes.

Abiola made this known while receiving a delegation from Women Radio 91.7 FM (WFM 91.7), led by its co-founder, Ms. Toun Sonaiya, at the CLTC. The visit, she said, marked an important step toward building strategic partnerships that promote inclusive leadership and capacity development for women.

According to Abiola, Women Radio occupies a unique position on the African media landscape as the continent’s first and only female-centric radio station, while also running Nigeria’s first and only female academy dedicated to training young women journalists. She described the engagement with the delegation as “insightful and engaging,” noting that discussions centred on areas of collaboration, particularly in advancing women’s leadership development.

“I also shared ongoing efforts by the Centre to incorporate more gender-focused trainings and modules into our programming,” Abiola stated, underscoring CLTC’s commitment to equipping women with the skills and confidence required for leadership roles across sectors.

Commending the radio station’s impact, the CLTC boss praised Women Radio for its consistent efforts in amplifying women’s voices and building capacity within the media profession. She expressed particular satisfaction with the organisation’s dedication to empowering young women journalists through structured training and mentorship.

Abiola added that she looks forward to a strong working relationship between the Centre and Women Radio, describing the prospective partnership as one that would be mutually beneficial and impactful.

The update was shared via Abiola’s official X account, where she reiterated her optimism that sustained collaboration between public institutions and purpose-driven media organisations would further strengthen women’s participation and leadership in national development.
