BUK Appoints Lamara Garba, as Director of Public Affairs, Announces Five New Directors.

The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has confirmed the appointment of veteran Journalist Lamara Garba as substantive Director of the Public Affairs Directorate.

The appointment was confirmed in an official letter signed by the University’s Registrar,Malam Haruna Aliyu,on the 22nd April,2025.Daily Hibiscus News online also obtained the copy of Bayero University Kano Special Bulletin,dated 24 April,2025, where the announcement was made.

According to the Bulletin Lamara Garba has been serving as a Deputy Registar in charge of the Directorate since 2021.This appointment is widely regarded as a logical and well-earned progression, considering his wealth of experience and dedication to institutional service.

Born in December 1966 in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State. Lamara began his professional journey in 1993 as a correspondent with New Nigerian Newspaper, reporting on major events and developments across Kaduna, Bauchi, Kano, and Jigawa States.

His reporting styles, rooted in accuracy and fairness earned him respect and recognition in the media industry. He served as a two-term chairman of the Kano State correspondents’ Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists.

He later assumed critical positions at the National Level, including Head of strategic communication at the Fiscal Responsibility Commission in the Presidency,Abuja, and Head of Information Division at the National Examinations Council (NECO) in Minna.

In 2015, Mr Garba joined the services of Bayero University Kano where he has been playing a vital role in strengthening institutional communication, supporting university development initiatives, and promoting public awareness.

He is a graduate of BUK, he holds a B .A and Msc in Mass communication , in addition to Masters in Development studies. He is currently pursuing his Phd in Mass communication at the same university.

Mr Lamara Garba belongs to professional bodies, which includes the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations(NIPR), African Public Relations Association(APRA), Association of Communication Scholars, ACSPN and ACCE.

Other five Directors were also appointed by the University’s Management.
