Police Extradite Suspected Killer ‘Killaboi’ from Qatar to Face Charges for Murder of Lead University Student
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully extradited Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar, to face murder charges in Nigeria.
His return was confirmed in the early hours of Saturday, 19th April 2025, following a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Force Headquarters Abuja, and Qatari judicial authorities.
Nnayereugo is accused of murdering Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student at Lead City University, Ibadan, at his residence in Lagos on 13th July 2023. After the crime, he fled Nigeria and later attempted to mislead investigators by releasing a video claiming responsibility for the murder.
In a statement, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, highlighted the timeline of events leading to the extradition. “Following a petition from the family of the deceased, INTERPOL NCB Abuja was tasked with investigating the case,” he said.
“Nnayereugo was declared wanted by the NPF Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department on 13th October 2023, which led to the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice.”
Nnayereugo was initially arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, under a false identity in October 2023 but escaped during a prison break in November. His evasion continued as he moved through various regions, including West Africa and the Middle East, until he settled in Doha, Qatar, using a forged Guinean passport.
Through advanced biometric technology and international cooperation, his identity was confirmed, leading to his arrest in Qatar in February 2025. “The cooperation between INTERPOL NCB Abuja and INTERPOL NCB Doha was instrumental in this operation,” Adejobi remarked.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that facilitated the extradition, saying “I commend the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Government of Qatar, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their invaluable support,” he stated. “This case underscores the importance of international synergy in combating trans-border crimes.”
The IGP assured the public of the NPF’s commitment to ensuring that Nnayereugo faces a diligent prosecution. “We are dedicated to justice and the safety of all Nigerians,” he affirmed.
The extradition of Nnayereugo marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian authorities to bring fugitives to justice and uphold the rule of law.
