IEDPU pledges support for KWASU’s developmental projects

The National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, has assured of the Union’s readiness to partner with Kwara State University to achieve its developmental programmes.

Alhaji Abdulmalik gave the assurance on Sunday, June 29, 2025, when some members of the governing council and management of KWASU, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, OON, paid a visit to the IEDPU National Secretariat, at Geri Alimi, Ilorin.

Alhaji Abdulmalik, a retired Assistant Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, pledged that the Union under his leadership would mobilise people of Ilorin Emirate to support the KWASU in the areas of infrastructural development, endowment of prizes for the best graduating students among others.

The president who noted that IEDPU would soon endow a prize for the best graduating student to motivate the students and promote academic excellence among the youth, commended the management and staff of the university for consistently supporting the union in all its programmes and projects, especially its annual convention that holds every December.

Alhaji Abdulmalik appreciated the institution’s growth, which he said has opened doors for many youth to pursue their desired courses and career paths.

Earlier in his address, the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, OON, stated that the visit was to express gratitude for the union’s longstanding cordial relationship and to extend an invitation to the union to consider investing in a private hotel on campus to alleviate the pressing issue of shortage of student accommodation.

Highlights of the visit included the presentation of a formal invitation letter to the IEDPU President, proposing the development of a student hostel, as well as a tour of the ongoing IEDPU Mosque and IT Hub projects at the Secretariat.

The KWASU team also paid a visit to the Chairman, Ilorin Central Mosque Committee, Alhaji Shehu AbdulGafar, where the Council Chairman sought the committee’s interest to invest in hostel accommodation on KWASU Campus.

In his response, Alhaji Shehu AbdulGafar, who expressed joy over the visit, said the visit was a step in the right direction.

On the entourage of the Council Chairman was the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh, and two members of the University Governing Council, Professor Ibrahim Jawondo and Engineer Maryam Daudu; as well as the Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, Mr Ishaq Babatunde.
