ASAMU 1: Celebrating a Consistent Philanthropist on his Birthday
By AbdurRaheem Sa’ad Dembo anipr
Birthday is a day for showing gratitude to Almighty Allah and at the same time to reflect on one’s journey on earth. Many never had the opportunity to celebrate 40s,50s,60s and so on.It wasn’t because they offended their Creator but their destiny. This is why one has to rejoice and be prayerful on one’s birthday
Every August 11, is a day to celebrate Dr Surajudeen Adewuyi Muhammad Usman popularly known as ASAMU 1.Rejoicing with him should attract uniqueness, because he has been consistently extending a helping hand to the less privileged through various donations.
His name is a household name among the Yoruba in Kano, Kaduna and Abuja.I did investigation about him through family and friends in Kano, the accounts were the same.
One of his monumental contributions was done earlier this year to Ilorin Emirate Indigenes in Kano where he contributed 15 million naira to their multimillion naira project, which is expected to house mosques, Islamiya and shopping complex.
In terms of scholarship,he has sponsored some students for university education and law school students.
I asked Dr ASAMU 1 recently about why he loves assisting people. Here is what he said:”I love touching the lives of the less privileged, because that is the essence of humanity. One must not look away when you see people that needed help.Besides, Islam encourages us to be kind and magnanimous to others.
Contributing to the growth of Islam is every muslim’s responsibility;it doesn’t necessarily mean that until one has money that fills his or her entire room and bank account.”
Dr ASAMU 1 is an example of those who make impacts without rolling out drums to the hearing of a closest neighbour, because he believes his reward lies within prerogative of Allah(SWT).
As he marks his birthday today,I pray that Allah grants him long life with good health, guidance, wealth, and wellbeing in the service of Islam and humanity
Let me end this piece by the words of late Reggae King,Bob Marley
“Live For yourself and you will live in vain.Live for others and you will live again”
