INEC voter registration hits 3.75m nationwide as phase ends April 2026
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has wrapped up the second phase of its nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, recording a total of 3,748,704 completed registrations across Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Friday, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Etta-Messi, said the figures represent a mix of online pre-registrations and in-person completions at designated centres nationwide. The commission noted that the outcome reflects sustained public interest and participation as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
According to the breakdown, 2,259,288 Nigerians completed their registration through the online pre-registration portal, while 1,489,416 finalised the process physically at registration centres.
INEC, however, emphasised that the figures remain provisional and are subject to further verification.
With the registration phase now concluded, the commission said it is shifting focus to the next critical stage—public display of the voter register for claims and objections. This phase is designed to enhance the accuracy and credibility of the electoral roll.
The display exercise is scheduled to take place nationwide from April 29 to May 5, 2026, during which citizens will be able to verify their details and flag any discrepancies. INEC urged all registrants to take advantage of this window to confirm their information and help identify ineligible entries, including duplicate registrations, deceased individuals, and non-citizens.
The commission also outlined the timeline of the CVR exercise, noting that the first phase ran from August 18 to December 19, 2025, while the second phase commenced on January 5 and ended on April 17, 2026. It added that details of the third phase will be announced in due course.
Reaffirming its commitment to credible elections, INEC stressed that maintaining a clean and reliable voter register remains fundamental to delivering free, fair, and transparent polls.
