It’s Impossible For Jonathan To Unseat Tinubu – APC
The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to growing talks about former President Goodluck Jonathan returning to the presidential race in 2027.
The discussion comes as some of his supporters continue to push for him to contest again after leaving office in 2015.
On Friday, the APC in Lagos stated that while Jonathan still commands respect as an elder statesman, the idea of him unseating President Bola Tinubu in the next election remains uncertain.
The party noted that Jonathan’s years in office between 2010 and 2015 left the country battling corruption, insecurity, and economic stagnation, challenges it believes Nigeria cannot afford to revisit.
The APC argued that leadership in the coming years must focus on innovation, accountability, and solutions to pressing national issues such as unemployment, education, and power supply.
It added that relying on nostalgia or sentiment would not address Nigeria’s current realities.
The party also raised concerns about constitutional and political issues that may arise if Jonathan attempts a return, pointing out that his previous terms in office could trigger legal battles.
His political moves, including engagement with different parties and limited involvement in the rebuilding of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were also questioned.
According to the APC, Jonathan’s legacy as a peaceful democrat is not in doubt, but the party insists that the future of the country lies in fresh leadership that reflects the aspirations of a new generation of Nigerians.
It urged citizens to look forward to 2027 with a focus on capable governance rather than past administrations.
