Kwara 2027: Saraki Announces Engr. Kale Kawu as PDP Consensus Gubernatorial Candidate
Ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial elections, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has officially announced Engr. Kale Kawu as the party’s consensus flagbearer.
The former Senate President made the declaration on Saturday via a statement on his official Facebook page, putting an end to weeks of speculation regarding the party’s ticket, just 24 hours before the scheduled gubernatorial primaries.
According to Saraki, the emergence of Engr. Kawu was the product of high-level dialogue and strategic alignment within the party’s ranks.
”I am pleased to announce that, after extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election,” Saraki stated. “That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu.” The PDP leader used the opportunity to commend the sportsmanship of the other gubernatorial hopefuls who agreed to shelve their personal ambitions to back Kawu. He noted that their decision was made in the “supreme interest of our party and state,” describing their actions as a demonstration of the unity and selflessness required to secure victory at the polls.
While the consensus arrangement effectively determines the party’s flagbearer, the PDP is still expected to hold its primary election to officially affirm the candidacy. Anticipating the exercise, Saraki extended his best wishes to the party faithful, urging members, delegates, and teeming supporters to ensure a “successful, peaceful, and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries.”
The emergence of Engr. Kale Kawu as the consensus candidate marks a pivotal step in the Kwara PDP’s strategy to present a united front and reclaim the state’s top seat in the upcoming general elections.
