NYSC to Start Paying N77,000 Allowance in March
Corps members across Nigeria will start receiving a monthly allowance of N77,000 from March 2025, according to the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu.
He made this known while meeting with corps members at the NYSC Zonal Offices in Wuse and Garki, Abuja.
He reassured them that the payment would be made as planned and that both the NYSC and the Federal Government remain committed to their welfare.
The new allowance follows the approval of a N70,000 minimum wage by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024.
Previously, corps members were receiving N33,000, an amount set in 2019 after the last minimum wage adjustment.
The approval for the new payment was documented in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024.
The letter, signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta, confirmed the implementation of the allowance in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
Brigadier General Nafiu encouraged corps members to stay focused and disciplined while serving the nation.
He also praised the NYSC’s role in promoting national unity by allowing young graduates to experience different cultures.
A corps member at the Garki Zone, speaking on behalf of others, expressed appreciation for the assurance that the allowance would be paid on time.
