BREAKING: Senator Saliu Mustapha Dumps APC

Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after 13 years in the party.

Mustapha, a founding member and prominent chieftain of the APC in Kwara State, announced his resignation in a statement obtained by Daily Hibiscus News on Thursday evening via his official verified social media handles

In the statement titled Notice of Resignation as a Member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the senator said his decision followed what he described as careful consideration of recent developments within the APC in Kwara State.

He disclosed that he had spent weeks consulting with relevant stakeholders, supporters, constituents across Kwara Central Senatorial District and other well-meaning Kwarans before arriving at the decision.

“This is not a decision I have taken lightly. It follows weeks of extensive consultations and engagements with relevant stakeholders, my supporters, constituents across Kwara Central Senatorial District, and well-meaning Kwarans,” he said.

Mustapha explained that his decision was informed by his belief that politics should be centred on people, principles and purpose, adding that where a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with those convictions and the aspirations of the people, it becomes necessary to chart a new course.

“As a politician, I have always believed that politics must be about people, principles and purpose. Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course.”

The senator expressed appreciation to the leadership of the APC, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he had gained during his years in the party.

He also assured his constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders across Kwara State and beyond that his resignation from the APC would not affect his commitment to public service.

“While my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged,” Mustapha stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria

The resignation comes ahead of the 2027 general elections and is expected to have significant political implications for the political landscape in Kwara State, particularly in Kwara Central
