President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mourned the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, describing his passing as a great loss to the Yoruba film industry, Nollywood and Nigeria’s creative community.
The President’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, following the actor’s death on Sunday.
Tinubu said the late actor was a distinguished artiste whose decades-long career helped shape Yoruba theatre and Nigerian cinema through his distinctive screen presence and commitment to promoting Yoruba culture.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was a gifted artiste who used his talent to tell Nigerian stories, preserve our cultural heritage and entertain audiences at home and abroad,” the President said.
He added that, on behalf of the Federal Government, he extended heartfelt condolences to the actor’s family, colleagues, friends and millions of admirers, while praying that Almighty Allah would grant him eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
Ogogo reportedly died after battling stage-four cancer and was buried on Monday in Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites.
